The DAYTONA 500 Experience at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) today welcomed five past champions of the “Great American Race” to its Walk of Fame. Inductees ranged from this year’s winner, Kevin Harvick (2007), to Junior Johnson (1960).

Harvick, most recently known at the track for his neck-and-neck finish at the 49th DAYTONA 500, captured his handprints, right footprint and signature in a cement block to be displayed outside the attraction. Starting at the 50th running of the DAYTONA 500 (Feb. 17, 2008), capturing the champion’s right footprint will become a new Victory Lane tradition and each will be prominently displayed in the “Goodyear Heritage of Daytona” area.

“Today we’re honoring five true legends of NASCAR for their achievements on the race track and also in life,” said Robin Braig, president for Daytona International Speedway. “By inducting some of the greatest drivers in the world to the DAYTONA 500 Experience Champions Walk of Fame, we’re ensuring their storied history will always be a part of DIS’ hallowed ground.”

Joining Harvick and Johnson at the induction was Derrike Cope (1990), Buddy Baker (1980) and Pete Hamilton (1970). Plans for a new exhibit inside the DAYTONA 500 Experience featuring other past champions of the “Great American Race” were also unveiled at the ceremony.

Tickets to the 50th running of the DAYTONA 500 are on sale now. To purchase tickets or for ticket information, visit daytona500.com.
