DIS Gathers More Than 20 Winning Daytona 500 Cars For DIRECTV Speedweeks

Throughout DIRECTV Speedweeks 2008, race fans will have an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to view more than 20 original and replica winning Daytona 500 cars as Daytona International Speedway continues its celebration of the 50th running of the Daytona 500.

Named “Tribute to Tradition,” the showcase of Daytona 500-winning cars will commemorate and pay tribute to “The Great American Race” at three on-site locations at the historic Daytona International Speedway:

  • Sprint FANZONE, located in the heart of Daytona International Speedway
  • Daytona 500 Experience, the Official Attraction of NASCAR located outside Turn 4
  • The Midway, also located outside of Turn 4.

The fan-friendly Sprint FANZONE area will showcase four prestigious cars, including one of Richard Petty’s seven Daytona 500 winning cars. Access to this tribute is included in the purchase of a Sprint FANZONE ticket.

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s 2004 Daytona 500 winning car and a replica of Dale Earnhardt’s 1998 Daytona 500 winning car will be among the seven cars inside Daytona 500 Experience motorsports attraction and is included in Daytona 500 Experience admission.

The Midway area will display 13 legendary cars including the 1997 and 1999 Daytona 500 winning cars of Jeff Gordon.

Interactive kiosks and multimedia video and plasma screens showing historical photos and video clips will be stationed at the Midway and Daytona 500 Experience locations.

In addition to the winning car displays, former Daytona 500 champions Bobby Allison and Junior Johnson will do a question and answer session in the Sprint FANZONE on Thursday, Feb. 14 at noon and former Daytona 500 champions Marvin Panch and Sterling Marlin will do a question and answer session at the Daytona 500 Experience on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m.
